Ice Fishing Gets Competitive

RIFLE, Colo.- More than 400 people gathered this weekend to ice fish in Rifle to compete against one another for the biggest fish, and some money.

The 15th annual ice fishing tournament, brought in people from all over the state and Utah.

"We come out here, drill a hole with our auger and sit around and wait for the fish to bite," said Henry Dalla.

"It's just a chance to get out with people and you know, there's a lot of comradery," said Wally Cerise.

Some ice fish to relax, while others do it for the prize money, which ranged from $50 to $500; with one opportunity for $20,000.

"Oh, we're having a ball. You can't win unless you try," said Dalla.

Wally Cerise, has been attending the tournament since it started.

"It gets harder every year. I'm 82 years old, so the cold kind of gets me," said Cerise.

This year, Cerise was the overall winner, which meant he received $500 and got the chance to select an envelope that could give him $20,000.

"I won this one here, so yea I feel lucky," said Cerise.

The top five winners in three different fish categories walked away with trophies, money and free fishing poles.

"I'll still be here until I can't," said Cerise.

Cerise didn't pick the envelope that had $20,000 in it, but still walked away with $500 plus $100 from the Rifle Chamber of Commerce.
