‘Hunger Action Month’ Kicks Off
KREX News Room
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Food banks across the country and right here on the Western Slope are encouraging the public to give back during Hunger Action Month.
For more than a decade, the Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies has been participating in this fight against hunger. Officials say people are always in need and they are even beginning to see some people who have never needed their food assistance before.
“Hunger knows no season,” said Starlene Collins, manager of the Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies. “People are hungry all year long, but sometimes I think that we need to be reminded that there are less fortunate in our community, especially during the summer. We get real involved with going on vacation, going camping, doing different things, it’s kind of easy to forget.”
Officials say if you go on their website, foodbankoftherockies.org, there will be 30 ways you can participate in Hunger Action Month, giving a reason each day to give back to the area in September.
