Hundreds Turn Out for Veterans Day Parade

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- One day before Veterans Day, Main Street flooded with folks waiting to show appreciation to those who have served in our military.

Karon Carley and Operation Interdependence volunteers spend about 45 minutes every year decking out a Unimog in our nation's colors.

"Not only are our deployed important to us, so are our veterans, and this is our way of honoring them by being in the parade today," said Carley.

This year marks Carley's seventh time in the parade; she says seeing just how many people turn up to celebrate our veterans is her favorite part.

"We're so happy to see them because a lot of them are veterans, and that way we can honor them even more," Carley said.

Many veteran organizations took part in the celebration, including the Grand Valley Honor Guard.

"We just come out to get together with our comrades and try to let everybody remember that we're free because of the military," said Cmdr. Bob Handerson with the Grand Valley Honor Guard.

Hundreds of residents were happy to acknowledge just that.

"It's the smallest of what we could do considering what they've done for us, to come out here and show support," said Austin Duckworth, who came to see the parade with his family.
