Hundreds Gather To Run For Orphans

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The second annual Grand Junction Orphan Run was held Saturday morning, bringing hundreds of people to Eagle Rim Park.

Kids participated in a 1-mile run, along with a 5K and 10K run to help raise money to give to different organizations that support orphans.

There were local and national organizations at the event to provide more information on food and shelter for orphans. "What's unique about this event is that everyone who participates within a group decides where to send the money that they raised. I hope that in the future more groups in the Grand Junction area participate because this is a great opportunity to really significantly increase and change
the lives of orphans," said Gerry Geraghti, founder of River Run.

More than 200 runners participated and more than a dozen vendors showed up.

Officials say the race wasn't held just to raise money, but to bring forth awareness and resources that are available for orphans.

Last year the race raised around $12,000 and they are hoping to do the same, if not more, this year.

What a great story. We're planning a run in July... it's such a blessing that so many runners show up to support great causes like this! Douglas Riggle, President Orphan World Relief
