GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. HomewardBound of the Grand Valley has completed a seven-month search for a permanent executive director.

Board members are excited to introduce Douglas Karl of Arvada, Colorado as their new director.

Karl was selected from a long list of candidates to assume a leadership position to help move HomewardBound forward.

A.J. Johnson has been serving as the interim executive director of the homeless shelter.

Johnson said, "I think it's a good transition for HomewardBound of the Grand Valley because he is going to be able to be on as a permanent situation and not a temporary situation. He'll be able to make permanent changes or whatever direction they need with the board and their plan of action as far as what holds the future."

The HomewardBound board members held a retreat in December, ironing out some goals for 2013. Those include figuring out a way to separate families from single men and women.

The new director will be assuming his responsibilities on Monday, Feb. 18.
