Home Loan Taste of the Grand Valley to Draw in Funds for United Way

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- For the last 11 years the United Way of Mesa County has been bringing together food exhibits from all around for the Home Loan Taste of the Grand Valley.

It's an event that has drawn in big crowds, and a lot of donations for the organization.

This year, they will have more than 30 different food exhibits dishing out tasty treats. Officials say there’s a mix of new vendors but still have some favorites from last year returning.

“We have been preparing for probably over two months,” said Holly Schroeder, supervisor of Main Street Bagels.

As always, all proceeds from the indoor food festival will go towards United Way of Mesa County.

“It’s extremely important to United Way because right now, our campaign is trending low,” said Amanda Crysler, of the United Way of Mesa County.

Agency officials say any last minute fundraising will be a huge help for the whole community, as United Way is still close to $65,000 below last year's fundraising efforts.

“We wrap up our campaign at the end of February,” said Crysler. “So we are trying to close that gap between now and the end of February.”

“We are working hard and we are pretty confident,” said Jerome Gonzales, of the United Way of Mesa County. “It’s a very generous community and we look forward to them reaching out one last time to support United Way.”

If United Way doesn't raise enough money, officials say it could put a huge dent in local non-profits. Which is why Main Street Bagels and other participants are happy to help.

“It’s helping out the United Way here in town,” said Schroeder. “So it is helping them raise some funds, as well as growing our business.”

All the funk kicks off on Monday at the Two River’s Convention Center from 4- 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $15 for adults at the door. NewsChannel 5 will have a booth set up during the event.

Monday will also be the United Way of Mesa County's radiothon. It will run from 7 to 7 p.m.
