Home Depot Lends Skills to Struggling Families

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A home-supply business is helping to provide a safe place for struggling families.

On Thursday, craftsmen with Home Depot used their skills to make repairs at the Catholic Outreach's Emergency Transition House.

The emergency housing program provides short-term housing for up to two homeless families with children at a time.

Because of the Home Depot's generous donation and man power, the Catholic Outreach was able to save $3,000.

“This is a house that volunteers built because everything new has come from volunteers,” said Sister Karen Bland, executive director of Catholic Outreach.

“The Home Depot employees donate a lot of time and effort helping many different community projects. Whether it’s in developing them or finishing them,” said Dennis Rosette, of Home Depot.

The families stay in the homes for one to three months at time, free of charge, while at least one of the adults earns what is needed for permanent housing.
