GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A local Catholic school wants to make sure its students' pets are extra special by giving them a blessing.

On Thursday morning dozens of four-legged friends made a special appearance at Holy Family Catholic School in honor of the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi.

The school is celebrating the saint, and teachers taught their students how he gave up his wealth to celebrate god and all his creatures.

“We want to have the kids understand that god is present in everything, and their pets are a celebration of creation,” said Jake Aubert, principal. “It’s their responsibility to be stewards of them and take care of them.”

The school has been hosting the event for years, and the principal says it's a good way to teach the students about role models of faith.
