DENVER- Lawyers for the suspect accused of killing 12 and wounding 70 others at an aurora movie theater, have indicated that their client may plead not guilty, by reason of insanity.

According to the Denver Post, James Holmes' attorneys have filed court papers asking for clarification of the consequences of the insanity plea.

Without answers from the judge, the lawyers say Holmes can't decide whether to plead not guilty by reason of insanity.

Holmes is scheduled to enter a plea on March 12.

Holmes is charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder and attempted murder in the July 20 Aurora theater shooting .
