Montrose Habitat for Humanity Celebrates ReStore Grand Opening

MONTROSE, Colo.- On Friday a ribbon cutting was held to celebrate the completion and grand opening of the Montrose Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

The organization is in the business of making houses and giving people the opportunity to make them into homes.

Bill Bond, the project manager and construction supervisor for Habitat for Humanity of Montrose County, said, "So proud to work here. So proud to be a part of this, and it gives you such a feeling in your heart."

The completed ReStore building in Montrose will allow the organization to take its efforts into high gear.

Colleen Burke, the executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Montrose County, said, "ReStore is really the economic engine for Habitat for Humanity to create revenue to build affordable housing."

The ReStore building acts like a thrift store.

"Every day of the week we accept donations. We got to Telluride, we go to Montrose, Ridgway, Ouray, Gunnison and the surrounding community and do pickups," said Burke.

Bond said, "The sales from this actually all go to building Habitat homes."

Volunteers and staff have been working for months to get the building to where it's at today.

"We rebuilt the building essentially from the ground up, starting at the top," Burke said.

"Teamwork and volunteers is the way this organization is actually able to continue," said Bond.

Burke also said, "In the last 20 years we've built 42 homes in Montrose County and by doubling the size of this we hope to make a significant impact in that number in the next 20 years."

Everything from appliances to furniture can be purchased for a home. This, in the long run, will help someone else get their own home.

"Practically everyone that gets a Habitat house, they have a sense of accomplishment and it is just so dear to my heart," Bond said.

Volunteers and staff are ready to open the doors to the ReStore and move on to the next chapter of their mission.

The public is invited to begin shopping at the ReStore on Saturday.

There will be door prizes, hot dogs, soda and a live radio broadcast at the opening.

New hours for the ReStore are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m until 4 p.m.

Donations will be taken daily at the back of the new building.
