DENVER- Gov. John Hickenlooper gave his State of the State Address Thursday, urging lawmakers to make sound decisions that would help move Colorado forward.

Hickenlooper talked about the theater shooting and summer wildfires and he told the General Assembly, they have an obligation to prevent similar tragedies.

He called for universal background checks for all gun sales.

Hickenlooper added that in Colorado, we learn from tragedy. Noting that after Columbine, the legislature regulated gun shows.

He said our democracy demands the debate.

"Surely, second amendment advocates and gun control supporters can find common ground in this proposition. Let's examine our laws and make the changes needed to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people," stated Hickenlooper.

Republicans argue the law would be unenforceable.

Hickenlooper also called for more money for wildfire mitigation and a DUI marijuana law.

He also pushed for an overhaul of the state's mental health system.

They have to get the guns from us as it will make it easier to herd us to the F.E.M.A. re-education centers!
