Hickenlooper Addresses Natural Gas Development Issue

WASHINGTON- Gov. John Hickenlooper appeared before a Senate committee in Washington, to talk about the opportunities and challenges of natural gas development.

Hickenlooper told lawmakers that cheap, natural gas has helped boost investment in manufacturing and also reduced pollution as more coal-fired power plants are replaced with gas-powered ones.

The governor says drilling requires strong regulation and he told the committee about plans to reduce the chance of methane escaping into Colorado's air.

"But eventually within two years we will have measured the air quality at different times of the day at different seasons in most of our major oil producing parts of the state so that we can actually demonstrate what are the, not just the estimates, but the real consequences of this and how much methane is escaping and get ourselves back down to a zero tolerance," explained Hickenlooper.

Hickenlooper's testimony came a day after Colorado regulators voted to increase buffer zones between buildings and new oil and gas wells.

Methane? Isn't bovine flatulence the main cause of methane gas in the atmosphere? And why is a democrat hack commenting on the energy industry?

Methane gas is a natural occurance all over the planet, any human effort to contain it is purely comical. I'd like to see him, in all of his environmental splendor, put a lid on an active volcano.
