DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - A 37-year-old Hermosa man accused of shooting a close friend to death has agreed to plead guilty to a reduced charge of criminally negligent homicide.

The Durango Herald reports that Justin Wiese signed the agreement Friday and faces up to three years in prison for the April 2011 death of 42-year-old Darrick Zuber. Wiese was initially charged with second-degree murder.

An arrest affidavit says Wiese told police Zuber committed suicide, but a medical examiner's report says the fatal shot entered the back of Zuber's left shoulder at an angle impossible to have been self-inflicted.
