Halloween Safety Tips
KREX News Room
GRAND JUNCTION,Colo. On Thursday, before heading out trick or treating there are some safety tips to be aware of.
Some important reminders for people wearing costumes include having reflectors, glow sticks, and bright clothing while out in the dark.
Also, if you or your child is wearing a mask, make sure the eye holes are big enough to see out of.
Make sure that costumes don't drag on the floor and that costume props are made out of soft and flexible material.
When out in the community trick-or-treating. It's best to carry a flash light or a cell phone flash light with you at all times.
Always have parent or guardian with your child at all times and is sure to stay on a safe directed path.
Also, never go into a stranger's home and when accepting treats, throw away any suspicious looking candy.
Another safety issue that parents need to be aware of on Halloween is sexual predators.
A way to find a sexual predator in Mesa County is to head to this website, www.mesacountyunifiedsexoffenderregistry.org.
The site is simple to use and once on the site just hit the accept button on the bottom of the screen and follow the steps to insert an address. The site shows where different types of sexual predators live and lists them by ranking.
One more recommendation that authorities are making is to take a photo of your child before leaving home.
