Habitat For Humanity Builds Unique Home

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- After working more than 500 hours for Habitat for Humanity, one local family will be receiving their own unique home.

Habitat for Humanity has built 58 homes in Mesa County and their 59th home, which is being built now, is different than any other kind of house they've constructed.

The house will be wheelchair accessible for a man whose 13-year-old son has cerebral palsy.

"This was initially a four bedroom home plan that we had, and we have actually dropped one of the walls so that there's a lot more open space, so he has a larger area to have a roll-in-shower," said Stacy Kelley, program coordinator.

Volunteers say they had to sit down and discuss a specific floor plan to make it wheelchair accessible, making the process a little longer.

They hope to have the house ready by early next year.

Volunteers primarily build all the houses for Habitat for Humanity every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
