HUD: CO Homelessness Rose in 2012

WASHINGTON- Recent HUD reports show a slight increase in Colorado's homelessness.

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Colorado saw an 11 percent increase in the number of sheltered and unsheltered homeless people from 2011 to 2012.

The total number of homeless people in Colorado from 2011, was 15,116. That number increased to 16,768 in 2012.

The number of chronically homeless also increased from 1,288 people to 1,612 people.

Five states accounted for nearly half of the nation's homeless population in 2012: California (20.7 percent), New York (11 percent), Florida (8.7 percent), Texas (5.4 percent) and Georgia (3.2 percent).

Wow, that Peoples Republic of Mesa County plan to eliminate homelessness in ten years is going great!
