FRUITA, Colo. A local program received a generous grant, which will give disabled veterans the opportunity to hit the trails.
With the $24,000 grant, Colorado Discover Ability purchased 10 new adaptive bicycles.
On Sunday, veterans got their first look at the bikes and learned how to use them.
As veterans gain skills and experience, some are set to train for Paralympic Competitions.
Jeremy Steinhauer, program director of Colorado Discover Ability, said, "We are primarily working with the Grand Junction VA Hospital, the recreation department there, for our first few clinics. And then we are hoping to expand the program to be open to anyone in the Grand Valley and surrounding areas."
The grant was provided by U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee. Colorado Discover Ability was one of 97 organizations to receive funds.
