Grand Valley Residents Locked Up to Raise Funds for MDA
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Hundreds of local community leaders and residents were locked up Wednesday afternoon for the Western Slope Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Event organizers asked participants to raise bail money from friends, family, and work associates to benefit local youth suffering from muscular dystrophy, ALS, and other related diseases. The over 700 participants were asked to raise $1,600 to support to kids attending the MDA Summer Camp in Empire, Colorado. "It's a summer camp based for them," said Kendell Montigriff, Executive Director of the Western Slope MDA. "It's wheelchair and handicap accessible, sp they just get to be a normal kid for a week and forget that they have a disability or they're confined to a wheelchair." Wednesday's event marked the end of the two month's participants had to raise their funds. Event organizers hope to raise a total of $60,000.
