GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Tourism officials say this year's Labor Day activities are much bigger than last year's.
The Grand Junction Visitor and Convention Bureau tells NewsChannel 5 2013 is the first year the Grand Valley has enjoyed such an active Labor Day weekend.
Not only do events including the Off-Road Mountain Bike Races and Western Colorado Classic Auto Event give residents much to do, they also bring in much needed commerce to the area.
"Coming together collectively, saying 'We need business on Labor Day,' everybody agreed and it came together nicely. We want to thank the downtown merchants because we are disrupting alot with the off-road event, but it should also bring some customers into their shops," explained Mistalynn Meyeraan with the GJVCB.
Other Labor Day events include a "Need for Speed" fun race at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway on Sunday at 5 p.m.
The Grand Junction Rockies will also host their final homestand of the season with games on Sunday (6:30 p.m.) and Monday (7:05 p.m.). There will be fireworks after Sunday's game.
