Grand Valley Health Fair Pushed Back to March

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Grand Valley Health Fair Steering Committee announced this some changes to the event this week, including moving the date from this fall to next spring.
With the help of feedback from their partners at the fair, committee members chose to push back the event in part to brainstorm ways to attract more uninsured and Hispanic residents to their events.
"Past health fairs, when we were affiliated with the 9HealthFair, 80 percent of the people that attend the fair already have health insurance, and that's not our target population for the Grand Valley Health Fair," said Sue Kiser, member of the Grand Valley Health Fair Steering Committee.
Next year's Health Fair will also include the recently introduced Community Health Improvement Plan which was created to improve the health of residents across Mesa County.
Earlier this year, the committee chose to remove its affiliation with the Denver 9HealthFair after nearly 30 years of partnership.
Ironically, the committee chose March 21 and 22 as the new date for the fair, the same days the Denver 9HealthFair plans to host its event in 2014.
Kiser says the committee plans on contacting 9HealthFair officials to discuss ways the two fairs can maximize opportunities for Mesa County residents.
She also says the Grand Valley Health Fair has no plans on changing its date due to the 9HealthFair.
