Grand Junction - Cakes, prizes, and more cakes can only mean one thing--the Grand Junction's Lions Club Parade and Carnival returned. Saturday at the Two Rivers Convention Center, thousands of people flooded the building to play games, win prizes, and desserts.
Grand Junction's Lions Club goal was to raise more than $100,000 to circle back into the community. Since the club started this fundraiser, they have raised nearly $4 million dollars, which staffers say always stayed in the community.
"We really take a lot of pride in giving back to our community and working very hard with, one, a very generous community. It's amazing the money we're able to raise through selling raffle tickets, and also to our business partners that help support us through the year," said PR and marketing chair of the Grand Junction's Lions Club Brad McCloud.
McCloud said they anticipate nearly 2,000 people to attend the carnival, and that most games cost only a quarter to play.
"You can spend $20 and go home with arms full of groceries, cakes, bacon and eggs, and candy," added McCloud.
The grand prize giveaways equals a total amount of $34,000. Some of the things that were up included hot tubs, jewelry, furniture, $250 cash, and a $500 outdoors man package from Cabela's.
McCloud says this event is something they work on for a large part of the year, but it's all worth it. "One of the coolest things is watching the little kids when they're at the booths and there playing for a quarter a piece, a quarter a piece, and you see them when they win that big teddy bear behind me, on one of those things. Seeing their eyes light up it absolutely makes this thing entirely worth it. It's so much fun," said McCloud.
The money raised is already allotted to 14 specified grants. If they receive more money than they anticipate, McCloud says they will give the money to other random acts of kindness.

These are 'good-ol-boys and true Lions that give back over and over again to our community. Never knock these GOB's down. Grand Junction and the surrounding communities are better because of them. Oh, and don't forget the ladies who are also Lions. Are they considered the GOL's or the GOG's? Keep up the good work Lions, we love you!
