Glacier Ice Arena Scheduled to Open This November

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The owners of Grand Junction's only ice skating facility announced their plans to reopen the arena this November.
Glacier Ice Arena will be opening its doors to the public after a lengthy legal battle that led to the closure of the ice rink for nearly three and a half years.
Back in 2010, the arena was forced to shut down after a faulty ice refrigeration system was installed by a Canadian contractor.
In December of 2011, the owners won a lawsuit against the contractor, but the funds awarded to them came too late to salvage the rink.
However, over the past few months, investors have collaborated with the initial owners, and will now have enough funding to bring the arena back to life.
"We've tried to get it open for the last three and a half years," said Alan Koos, one of the owners of Glacier Ice Arena. "We're looking forward to opening up in November."
Arena owners still have to schedule events and programs for the facility, and have interest in working with the Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Office.
The refrigeration system that started the legal issues still needs to be replaced as well.
