GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Grand Junction Regional Airport won a $3.69 million grant this week to begin renovations on a new terminal.
This funding will cover stage one of the project, which includes the construction of a 22,000 square foot facility that will hold the administration office and a community room.
Both Grand Junction City Council and Mesa County Commissioners will vote on final approval of the project in early September.
If the vote passes, construction could begin as soon as mid to late September.
There are multiple phases to the renovation of the airport, and each will require grant funding.
Airport officials estimate the entire project will be complete in 10-12 years.
The Department of Transportation awarded a total of $9.1 million to eight airports across Colorado, including $1.78 million to Denver International Airport and $1 million to the Gunnison-Crested Butte Region Airport.
