GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A Grand Junction native is adding her name to the April 2 ballot for the City Council District A Seat.
After spending the last year unhappy with the City Council decisions, Phyllis Norris decided that Grand Junction should change directions.
If elected, Norris wants the council to be more responsible when budgeting and to also make sure local firefighters and police officers have what they need to keep the city safe.
Norris also believes there are too many restrictions in place for businesses, causing many future companies to think twice about investing in the Grand Valley.
"We still have many people in the Valley out of work. Last year we only had 28 permits issued for business and we need to grow that. If we don't grow business, we're not going to grow jobs. Until we have jobs, people aren't going to be spending any money. I think that's the key to getting our economy going, to help business and promote business," explained Norris.
Norris spent her professional career working for City Market. She started as a checker in 1970 and worked her way up to president in 2001.
Norris looks forward to upcoming candidate debates so people can see the differences among those running.
