Grand Junction Lion’s Club Announces $125,000 in Grants

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Several local charities received a late Christmas gift from the Grand Junction Lion's Club, totaling more than $125,000.

Every year, the Lion's Club donates thousands to local charities and over the last six years, the club has raised nearly $1 million for our community.

This year, the club donated to nine charities ranging from schools to the health department.

“We are always looking to the future to see what we can do,” said Evan Walton, chair of the Community Betterment Committee. “Every year, when we are able to increase in amount, it really means a lot to us. We are able to better our selves from last year and go out and help more people and do the best for the community.”

The funds will begin to be disbursed after the lion's club carnival in February.

Here are the following beneficiaries:
Loma Elementary- Playground Equipment: $11,000
Mesa County Health Department- 3 Vision Screeners: $8,100
Grand Mesa Little League- Canopy Shades: $2,500
Mesa View Elementary- Interactive Boards: $3,600
Mesa County Jr. Football- Helmets: $7,500
Hilltop Community Resources- Alternative Treatment Unit: $15,500
Western Slop Center for Children- Case Tracking System: $5,100
Grand Junction High School Baseball- Ballpark Upgrades: $7,700
Las Colonias Park- $64,000 toward a $300,000 commitment over 6 years.
