Grand Junction Holds Last Cyclocross Challenge of 2012

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- People from all over the Western Slope gathered in Grand Junction Saturday for the last Cyclocross race of the year.

Around 200 people participated in four different categories, racing on sand, grass and pavement.

Riders from all over Colorado, with all different cycling levels, raced around Canyon View Park for 30 minutes straight, hoping to take home the gold.

"So this was kind of invented as a hybrid between road biking and mountain biking, and it really works on skills. There's a variety of terrain, sand, there's corners, there's grass, gravel; there is all sorts of things," said Mike Driver, race coordinator.

Organizers say they held the race to try and bring more cyclists to Grand Junction, and to help stimulate the economy.

They say winners get medals and some serious bragging rights.
