Grand Junction High School Hosts Blood Drive

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Both students and teachers at Grand Junction High School took some time out of class on Tuesday to donate blood.

Two of Saint Mary’s blood mobiles made a special stop at the high school to encourage students to donate blood.

Teens are able to donate starting when they're 16 years old as long as they have permission from their parents, and officials say they hope to get these students to start donating blood and continue into their adult lives.

“I think it’s a great way to give back, especially when you can't really do anything else because you’re in high school,” said Shyanne Carpentale, a student who donated blood.

“Probably whoever you’re donating to it will make them feel good, and it makes yourself feel good and it makes you want to do it again,” said Ashley Hendrex, another student who donated blood.

It's the first year Grand Junction High School is hosting the blood drive, and nearly 30 high schools across the Western Slope sponsor blood drives every year.
