GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Grand Junction firefighters slipped into a new kind of uniform on Monday, all to support the fight against cancer.
The firemen will sport pink shirts the entire month of October to raise awareness for the ongoing fight against cancer.
Over 900 fire departments across the country are participating in the event, and members of the Grand Junction fire department say they're happy to be participating for the first time.
“We've kind of been putting it together for the past few years and finally now rolling it out and we're hoping it spreads throughout the valley in the years to come,” said Derek Trombetta of the Grand Junction Fire Department. “It's going to be a big statement seeing a bunch of firefighters walking around in pink T-shirts. You’re not going to miss it.”
Throughout the month, the fire department is also selling these T-shirts for $20.
All proceeds will go toward "Delaney Donates,” which is a charity for a local girl who was diagnosed with cancer in 2010. Her cancer is now in remission.
