Grand Junction Business Fined for Radiation Violations

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Grand Junction office of Advance Painting Services, or APS T&T, is being fined $240,500 for having several radiation violations.

The Colorado Department of Public Heath and Environment found the company made false statements to investigation officials, performed industrial radiography without a valid license, failed to have a certified radiographer, failed to maintain records for inspection and failed to post appropriate signs for areas containing radioactive materials.

Officials say anytime standards for radioactive materials are not met, the situation could be dangerous.

"The workers and members of the public who might be in the vicinity of these job sites or where the materials are stored could be exposed to radiation unnecessarily," said Jennifer Opila from the radioactive materials unit.

Officials say so far in this case there has been no evidence proving that any workers or other people where harmed, but they will be prohibiting the current safety officer from overseeing radiation operations in Colorado for the next four years.

what about the natural gas drilling companies that are injecting radioactive materials underground into the aquifers? This is going to kill so many, and so much.
