Gov. Hickenlooper Says More Than A Third of Coloradans Own A Firearm.

DENVER (AP) - Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper says more than a third of Coloradans own at least one firearm.

But, ``At the same time, two of the worst shootings in history have taken place in Colorado,'' he said Tuesday during a panel on gun violence, referring to the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School and last summer's movie theater shooting in Aurora.

Hickenlooper has called for expanded background checks, a measure that's cleared the state House and awaits a Senate vote.

Citing recent mass shootings, Republican U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn argued that, ``if some of these laws were in effect, it would've made no difference, unfortunately.''

Hickenlooper was battling a cough and weighed in infrequently, but he did spar with Republican Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck, who argued that criminals wouldn't be screened by expanded background checks.

The governor argued, ``It doesn't catch all the crooks, but it catches the dumb ones.''

Remember, that is great news, but I have to ask. What is different now than in 2008 and 2012?

They have two years to play with our rights under the second amendment, we, as a people who believe in our rights, need to not let the next two years go by with them playing god with our rights. Unless we unite as Americans who have rights, regardless of what party we belong to, we will lose those rights.

Hot Potato is right, as a Democrat I will vote against any Dem that try's to infringe on my rights. And since the 30rd mag ban and other bills have now passed the house the Hick better start to worry, that goes for any Dem up for re-election in 2014! Hope the Senate has a little more sense and remembers what happened to Democrats last time they messed with the 2nd Amendment!

1/3? My guess would be much higher. \ As to new gun-control laws, why not just enforce the other laws that are on the books.

As long as we catch the "dumb" ones. Wish we could weed out the dumb polititians.

Hickenlooper has people in the White House doing his thinking for him, he just repeats what he is told.

This gun control stuff will destroy the Democrat party in Colorado. More than 1/3 of Colorado voters own guns, a lot more. And they're not all kool-aid drinking Left-wing Democrats. If the Gov has any political ambitions past today, he'll veto any gun control that gets to his desk.
