DENVER- Gov. John Hickenlooper is preparing to unveil his budget proposal for next year, and schools and health care officials will be watching.

Hickenlooper planned to release his annual proposal for the state's budget Thursday.

This is for the next fiscal year that begins July 1.

Lawmakers will wait to make their own proposal until after the new year.

Colorado's improving economy in the past year means this proposed budget could be more promising.

Lawmakers didn't have to make some drastic cuts to schools and other state services because tax receipts picked up.

State budget director Henry Sobanet told lawmakers that Hickenlooper would likely be asking for more funding for Medicaid.
