Gov. Hickenlooper Voices Opposition Towards SB 25

DENVER Governor John Hickenlooper voices his opinion on a bill that would unionize firefighters in Colorado.

According to the Denver Post, in a written letter to democratic leaders Hickenlooper stated that he could not support Senate Bill 25 in its current form which would allow firefighters to unionize regardless of their voters, or local governing boards rejecting the idea.

Hickenlooper stated, "We do not believe it is a matter of state interest to require mandatory bargaining within a locality and its firefighters. It is a matter of state interest, however, that the political rights of firefighters to engage in meaningful dialogue with their local elected representatives, including petitioning for local elections, be fully protected."

The bill passed the Senate earlier this month.
