GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A local Girl Scouts troop shared their famous cookies with those less fortunate Tuesday, in the largest donation to charity made by a troop on the Western Slope.
Around 3:30 p.m., the Girl Scout troop for Holy Family Catholic School donated more than 500 boxes of the sweet treats to Catholic Outreach.
Each year, Girl Scouts adopt "hometown heroes." Catholic Outreach was chosen after the troop visited the shelter in December.
"We chose Catholic Outreach because all of our troop members are students at Holy Family Catholic School, so this is a community organization that's very near and dear to our hearts," explained Victoria Gigoux, head leader for Girl Scout Troop 12214.
Troop 12214 is a multi-level group with 40 girls ranging from kindergarten Daisies to a sixth-grade Cadette. The troop is also the largest in Mesa County.
