Former Girl Scout Leader Faces Sexual Assault Charges

by KREX News Room

A former Grand Junction Girl Scout leader and teacher's assistant faces his charges after being accused of repeatedly molesting a child. 35-year-old Travis Cernazanu is charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual assault on a child by a pattern of abuse.

Cernazanu worked as a teacher's assistant at Mount Garfield Middle School for four years and also served as the leader of a girl scout troop in the Grand Junction area.

The Girl Scouts of Colorado say all girls in his troop have been interviewed, and all confirmed there was no inappropriate contact.

Cernazanu will be back in court November 29.

I want to let you guys know that just because you thinkk the girls/boys in the troop weren't harmed by him, may not necessarily be so. It may take years for any of those kids to say anything if something did happen. Many abuse victims don't immediately speak up for fear of what might happen to them or their family. Remember these are children and in a situation like this, I think it would be best to give these kids some time and some counseling
