Gessler Asks for Ethics Complaint Dismissal

DENVER (AP) - Attorneys for Colorado Republican Secretary of State Scott Gessler are asking for the dismissal of an ethics complaint alleging he wrongly used public funds to attend political events.
Attorneys said in a filing late Thursday to the state's Independent Ethics Commission that it was proper for Gessler to be reimbursed for attending a GOP election law training event in Florida. They say that attendance to the Republican National Convention while in Florida was properly paid for with campaign funds.
Gessler is accused of misused public funds. He was reimbursed $1,570 to attend both events. He says he received death threats while in Florida and had to pay more for an early return flight.
Denver prosecutors are also investigating to see if Gessler committed a crime. Gessler denies committing any wrongdoing.
