Gathering the Brrrr Necessities for Those in Need

MESA COUNTY, Colo.- It was "Make a Difference Day" over the weekend, and people across the country have been helping out their neighbors, including in Mesa County.

AmeriCorps organized The Brrrr Necessities, a drive to benefit Homeward Bound and the House shelters.

They collected items like socks, underwear, mittens, gloves and winter hats.

All sizes are needed, including children, teen and adult.

On Sunday AmeriCorps had three stations set up to collect items, including ones at Homeward Bound and both Wal-Marts in Grand Junction.

Coordinator for the AmeriCorps Project in Grand Junction, Angie Bertrand, said, "I love doing this for the community. You know, I feel very powerless at items to do something for the large population, but I do know I can do something for my neighbor, and I can do something on a small scale and make a difference in someone's life."

Organizers are still collecting items throughout the month of November.

The public can bring items to the Homeward Bound Shelter located at 2853 North Ave.

They can also bring items to the Opportunity Center where the AmeriCorps is housed, at 1129 Colorado Ave.

The items they are most in need of are socks and underwear.
