GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.- Garfield County Commissioners decided to pay off their remaining debt on their jail and other county facilities in full.

The county owed $8.9 million for numerous buildings including the jail, the county administration building in Glenwood Springs, as well as their road and bridge facility and administration building on Hunter Mesa outside Rifle.

John Martin, a county commissioner, said, "We're putting that [money] back to work, investing in our community, investing into our infrastructure and trimming our expenses on our budget for this year. We're really excited about having everything paid for, free and clear. The citizens own everything now."

The county saved just over $2 million including $82,000 they would have paid in interest this year.
