Garfield County Commissioners Settle Lawsuit

by KREX News Room
by Cori Coffin

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo.- The Garfield County Commissioners announced Monday they have reached a settlement with the Grand Valley Citizens Alliance, which filed a lawsuit claiming the commissioners held an illegal closed-door meeting on oil shale.

The Grand Valley Citizens Alliance claims that during that meeting, which was held in March in Vernal, Utah, the commissioners drafted a joint resolution on oil shale development.

The group said the public was not made aware of the closed-door meeting in advance.

Garfield County Commissioners denied the claim, but said they wanted to resolve the issue quickly.

They agreed to drop the resolution and also pay for the group's attorney fees.
