GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A group of firefighters were on a mission early Wednesday morning, but this one had nothing to do with battling a blaze.

The Grand Junction Firefighters Local 2808 held their annual Toys for Tots shopping event at the Rimrock Walmart.

This year, the firefighters were shopping for $6,300 worth of toys for Toys for Tots. Each had about $500 to spend.

Officials say it's their biggest donation of the year.

“Firemen are a bunch of big kids anyway,” said Chris McCoy, Grand Junction Fire Department captain. “We love doing things to help the community and help the kids in general. It’s one of our favorite events, and every year we come out and buy toys."

It’s the 15th year the firefighters have held the event.

The funds they used to buy the toys come from the local 2808 Firefighter Charity Fund, the money raised at their turkey trot this year, and Walmart also donated a part of the money as well.
