GJ to Help Fund Regional Training Facility

by KREX News Room

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Discussion at Wednesday's City Council meeting included funding for the training facility for public safety officers on the Western Slope, a measure that they eventually approved.

Due to a funding shortfall, the city was asked to contribute a third of a $240,000 difference in funding for the project.

Colorado Mesa University and Mesa County will be paying $80,000 each to make up the difference.

City staff say there is enough budgeted in the city's Economic Development account so City Council agreed to fund the final third of the cost.

There putting it on the credit card. Next year 13% of revenue will be used to 'service debt', then 15%, then 28%, etc....until we can never pay it off and struggle with the minimum payment that constitutes 80% of what they take in for taxes. For this we will hold these 'public servants' in high regard and struggle to find a city/country manager that will dig us deeper in the hole for a $150,000 salary while claiming to be underpaid. See Detroit for the end result.

The city must have really strong tax revenues to keep giving all this money to the various groups.
