A Grand Junction man says his next job is the 45th President of the United States. 53-year-old John Davis says his frustration has forced him to put his name in the running for the 2012 President.
"Ladies and gentlemen, it is for this reason that I am here today to formally announce my candidacy for the presidency for the office of the Presidency of the Unites States," announces John Davis in front of the Mesa County Courthouse.
It's an announcement met with hugs and handshakes.
"I know him as a conscientious, just a wonderful, person that has a backbone like you can’t believe," say David Schafer, a Davis supporter.
Friends have turned into supporters.
”I took this action because like you I’m upset, I’m angry, I’m frustrated and disappointed about the direction our country has taken," declares Davis.
The Grand Junction business owner says he knows he has his work cut out for him. “It’s our hopes to go to every county in America. It’s a big order, and don’t’ know if we can do it, but we’re certainly going to try and it's never been done, so I’ll be on the road a lot.”
Before the campaign trail starts Davis admits he has a big challenge: "Getting people to take me serious and over time they will."
Reducing the size of the federal government and pushing for term limits on all public offices are on his presidential agenda.
"If you want to get something done right, you do it yourself," and that's exactly what Davis intends to do.
Davis says one of the first things he intends to do if elected is post a sign saying, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
