GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run in Grand Junction took place on Sunday morning. The 5K walk/run event honors the courage and dedication of first responders, as well as military men and women and their families.

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run is a national race held in New York City in memory of 9/11.

Grand Valley Blue Star Mothers and Grand Junction firefighters held a local version of the race in the Grand Valley.

The firefighters wore bunker gear, showing respect to firefighters worldwide.

Robert Thomason, acting captain for the Grand Junction Fire Department, said, "It's very important for us to do the community service and participate with the community. Let them know what we do and what we are able to do for them."

Officials say around 75 people showed up to run.

Proceeds will be divided between Grand Valley Blue Star Mothers and the Siller Foundation.
