GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Downtown Grand Junction has come a long way in 50 years and that will be celebrated Saturday.

The event will be held on Main Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be a car show, kids activities, a band and aerial performances for people to enjoy.

Officials say some of the new improvements to the downtown area are its pedestrian friendly atmosphere, more outdoor patio options, benches and better lighting. "Recognizing that 50 years ago there was this great vision we have recently reinvested again into our downtown, and we hope that we're building on 50 years of foresight and going 50 years more into the future," said Kathy Dirks, marketing and communications director of Grand Junction Downtown.

There will be a cake served at 11:30 a.m. and a 1962 Grand Junction movie playing in the Avalon Theater every half hour from noon until 2 p.m.
