GJ City Council Endorses Measure to Add West Nile Protection, Raise Property Taxes

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The city of Grand Junction has announced its endorsement of measure 5B.

The ballot measure would offer spray protection against the West Nile virus and raise Grand Junction property taxes for both residents and businesses.

The Grand River Mosquito Control District says the fee benefits the greater good, and during this week's city council meeting some members of the group agreed.

Grand Junction City Council members voted 4-3 to pass a resolution in support of the ballot question.

Measure 5B would bring the metro Grand Junction area in with other districts, including Palisade, Orchard Mesa, the Redlands and Fruita, which already receive mosquito spraying.

The measure will be up for vote on the November ballot.
