GJ City Officials Discuss New Floodplain Ordinance

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Grand Junction city officials met with homeowners tonight to discuss new modifications to the city's flood plan.

In 2010, the Colorado Water Conservation Board revised the rules and regulations for floodplains in Colorado and the city is now adopting those changes, many of which are in the current floodplain ordinance.

"Typically people in the Grand Valley don't think of flood hazards as something that occurs around here, but unfortunately it happens so hopefully people will be a little bit more aware of the potential for flood hazards in the valley," said Bret Guillory, Flood Manager with the city of Grand Junction.

The major change to the current ordinance is to recognize the flood way as half a foot shorter than the previous definition.
