Future Looks Bright for Botanical Gardens

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. On Monday the Grand Junction City Council met with Strive to discuss a new partnership, which aims to improve the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens.

Strive, formally known as Mesa Developmental Services, stepped in to assist the facility last year.

During the past season, officials say they've turned around the operations financially, improved visitor numbers and improved garden maintenance.

Now, an agreement has been proposed for the future operations of the gardens.

Jeff Nichols, CEO of Strive and acting director of the Botanic Society, said, "The Botanic Society gets to see their vision continue to grow. Strives' part of it is it's a great venue and setting for us to have some of our people we support involved."

Nichols says in addition to bringing the butterflies back this year, they will be developing one of the gardens this season, a one-and-a-half acre garden west of the existing greenhouse.

City council plans to vote on the Strive agreement this Wednesday.
