Fruitvale Post Office to Relocate

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Fruitvale Post Office will soon be relocating.

Since several mail processing centers closed throughout the nation, a lot more mail will be coming in and out of Grand Junction. "We're not downsizing, we're actually up sizing, so it's a good thing for this area," said Mike Fittje, postmaster of the Grand Junction Post Office.

They need a building that's about 9,000 square feet bigger for the incoming and outgoing mail. "We're actually going to get more work instead of losing work, so it's going to require us to get a different facility," said Fittje.

The postmaster says other than the new location, nothing else will change. "They'll have the same P.O. box," said Fittje.

Residents say the Fruitvale Post Office is very popular, and they hope the new location isn't too far. "I heard they're going to stay pretty close to where the vicinity is now," said Greg Dalton.

"A half a mile, there will be a half a mile difference to the new facility," said Fittje.

The post office is expected to start moving in six to nine months. "It's been around for a while and I really enjoy it down here," said Dalton.
