Fruita Website Makeover Hopes to Increase Tourism

FRUITA, Colo. - The snow on the ground ins't stopping Fruita officials who are already looking ahead to the next tourism season.

"Our biggest tourism seasons are spring and fall because that's when the most of the mountain bikers come to the area," said Odette Phelps with the city of Fruita.

Fruita is well known for it's world class mountain biking trails, but for those scoping out the city for the first time online, planning a trip can be quite the process.

"What we want to do is make it as easy as possible for all the people that come to visit the website, that learn about all the activities that are available ... to actually convert them into actual stays here in Fruita," said Eric Mello with Cobbs & Associates.

Fruita has teamed up with Cobbs & Associates to enhance the city's website to list all lodging options and give visitors a chance to book them right on the spot.

"It'll make it much easier if they can just click the button, book the reservation and come visit," said Phelps.

The more online visitors they can transition into actual tourists, the bigger the boost is to the local economy.

That's good news for businesses like Suds Brothers Brewery that opened in Fruita last year.

"It was our first season here and we didn't know what to expect but it was really nice, we had a lot of bikers come through," said Brad Holmes, a manager at the brewery.

City officials hope through a more efficient travel website, next tourism season will be even more successful.
