GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Officials announced Tuesday that a Fruita teacher has been named the local winner of the national Barnes & Noble 'My Favorite Teacher' contest.
Fruita Middle School teacher, Joe Webb, was chosen from several entries. He was nominated by seventh grade student Megan Kreie, who wrote an essay detailing why Webb deserved the honor.
"I'm lucky to have a teacher like Mr. Webb. He's a really good teacher," explained Kreie.
"It's just amazing for teachers to get this kind of feedback from students, to know that you are making a difference in their lives. It's a huge honor," Webb said.
Webb will now be entered into a regional competition, where five winners will be chosen.
From there, one lucky national winner will receive $5,000 and the title of "Teacher of the Year." They will also receive $5,000 for their school.
