Fruita Student Awarded for Heroism

FRUITA, Colo.- Many parents teach their children ways to stay safe, like looking both ways before crossing the road, but for one Fruita mother, it was a safety measure she taught her son that saved her own life.

After first grader Cade Greager noticed his mother, Judy Greager, was incoherent and suffering from low blood sugar, he called for help.

Judy said Cade knew exactly what to do and grabbed her cell phone, called 911 and gave the dispatcher his name and address. He also explained she was suffering from an insulin reaction.

“I saved my mom's life,” said Cade. “If I didn't do that, she wouldn't be here.”

“He's my absolute hero,” said Judy. “If he wouldn't have done that, I wouldn't have been here today, not at all, so he will forever be my hero.”

In addition to recognizing Cade’s heroism, Rim Rock Elementary held a special assembly Tuesday morning to teach students about the 911 system and how to call during emergency situations.
